There has never been a better time for youths and adults to get physically and mentally active with Scouts  - which is all about fun, friendships and 'learning by doing'.   At Samford Scout Group, we provide young persons aged 5 to 25 with enjoyable and challenging opportunities to grow through new adventure.

With youth and adult members from various backgrounds and with varying abilities, Scouts the largest and most successful youth organisation in Queensland and the world. The long established Samford Scout Group is one of the largest Scout groups as we are in a wonderful part of Queensland where we can all explore adventure in our own amazing local outdoor environment.

Scouting has, for over a 100 years, helped boys and girls to develop to their full potential and become responsible and useful members of society.
These prominent Australians have all been influenced by Scouting – Dick Smith AO, Peter Beattie, Rove McManus, Peter Garrett, Sir Jack Brabham, Jamie Durie, Shane Jacobson, Bert Newton and Adam Spencer. Plus our local area politicians Hon Peter Dutton MP and Councillor Darren Grimwade.

These wonderful people were, or are, current Scouts – Sir Richard Branson, Bill Gates, David Beckham, Venus Williams, Mariah Cary, Neil Armstrong, Sir Paul McCartney, Peter Garrett, Billy Connolly, Harrison Ford, Celine Dion, Barack Obama, Michael Jordan, Steven Spielberg, Patrick Stewart, Bear Grylls, Michael J Fox, Nelson Mandela, John Lennon, Keith Richards, David Attenborough, Tony Blair, Michael Parkinson and David Bowie.  Of the 12 men that have walked on the moon… 11 were Scouts.

Today’s Scouts can take part in an extraordinary variety of outdoor activities, from ‘traditional Scouting skills’ such as camping and bush craft, through to more extreme challenges such as abseiling, overnight hiking, rafting, canoeing, canyoning, rock climbing, sailing and even flying! Scouts also have the opportunity to become involved in performing arts, leadership development, community service, amateur radio operation, environmental projects, large-scale Australian events such as Cuborees, Jamborees and Ventures, international events, and service projects in developing countries.

At Samford Scout Group, we put the needs of young people first. Our youth led, adult supported approach ensures that we contribute to the education of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS)

The Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) have been introduced to increase the outdoor adventure in Scouting. These outdoor pursuits, offered to young people of all ages, provide members with the opportunity to experience and then pursue activities of interest in the great outdoors. Whether it is hiking, camping, water activities or climbing, members may choose to gain basic skills across a broad range of activity areas, or they may pursue a small number of activity disciplines to a high skill level—the choice is extensive, so what will your new Scout do?

Special Interest Areas (SIA)

The Special Interest Areas (SIAs) encourage Scouts from all sections to try new things and pursue existing interests. Scouts set their own goals, enabling them to design a project that interests and challenges them personally.   They are broad, encouraging Scouts to pursue a diversity of interests and to ensure any activity a Scout could possibly think of can be included.
